Health Benefits of Eating Bell Peppers
One Of The Healthies Snacks On Earth: Fresh Coconut Water & Coconut Meat
I wanted to share all of the benefits of drinking and eating fresh coconut (one of the healthiest foods) have, especially if you are deficient in some important minerals such as potassium (charlie horses, poor circulation?) and magnesium (insomnia and even malabsorption of nutrients in the gut) Coconut water is extracted from green, young coconuts. However, I prefer the natural sweetness of coconut water from mature coconuts.
The benefits of drinking coconut water mainly remain in its large content of potassium.
Here is the nutritional value in one (1) cup of coconut water:
- Calories 46
- Carbohydrates 9 grams
- Sodium 250 mg
- Potassium 600 mg
- Magnesium 60 mg
- Phosphorus 45 mg
- Protein 2 grams.
Coconut water’s electrolyte content is about twice of that in commercial sports drinks with about half of the carbohydrates. (Source)
There you have it. A few more reasons to add fresh coconut to your diet. If you haven’t fed your temple (body) this amazing superfood, now is the time. The benefits are so worth it. I actually give it to my toddler as a snack or to drink with his meals. Furthermore, coconut products are among the healthiest foods today and have been for centuries in South America, Asia and many coastal areas in the world. Learn more about coconut oil and other amazing coconut products.
If you love coconut you will definitely love my recipe for The Best Gluten Free Coconut-Chocolate Chip Cookies I Ever Made
Now tell me. How do you incorporate coconut into your meals? In healthy baked goods or simply fresh and raw like I do?

Soursop The New Superfood
In my recent trip to South America- Colombia I had the privilege of eating raw-freshly-picked Soursop aka Guanabana o Graviola. Its flavor is absolutely divine, not to mention its benefits. The flesh and juice is delicious. Why Soursop is “The new superfood” ~ Every 100 grams of soursop provides:
- 1 gm protein
- 0.95 gm fat
- 16.5 gms carbohydrate
- 3.2 gm fiber
- 58 gms. ash
- 10.3 mg of calcium
- 26.9 mg of phosphorus
- 270 mg of potassium
- 0.64 mg iron
- 2 IU Vitamin A
- 28.5 Vitamin C
- 0.10 mg thiamine
- 0.06 mg riboflavin
- 1.3 mg niacin
- 11 mg tryptophan,
- 8 mg methionine
- 60 mg of lysine.
- 81.16 gms or Water.
According to MSKCC Soursop can fight certain types of cancer. Here is an exerpet:
Graviola extracts were effective against adriamycin-resistant human mammary adenocarcinoma (MCF-7/Adr) by blocking access of cancer cells to ATP and by inhibiting the actions of plasma membrane glycoprotein (29). They also inhibited expression of HIF-1α, NF-κB, glucose transporters, and glycolytic enzymes resulting in decreased glucose uptake and ATP production in pancreatic cancer cells (15), and downregulated EGFR expression in breast cancer cells (16). Phenolic compounds in graviola demonstrate free-radical scavenging potential against human breast carcinoma cells (30) and in promyelocytic leukemia cells (19). Extracts of acetogenin muricins J, K, and L have antiproliferative effects against human prostate cancer cells, with the effect of muricin K being strongest (27). In colon and in lung cancer cell lines, the ethanolic extract of graviola caused G1 cell-cycle arrest by upregulating Bax and downregulating Bcl-2 proteins (12) (13).
This definitely puts it up there in the Healthiest Foods category. Soursop has high water content, what does that mean? Well, this represents a contribution of only 65 calories. Not bad right?
If you’d like to try it get it at your local ethnic or health food store, but if you can’t find it you can find soursop extract or soursop juice.
Now is your turn. Have you tried Soursop, graviola or guanabana before?
[divider]Organic Mesclun Salad Grown in my own little garden
Choosing a salad mix with a variety of leafy greens is a great opportunity to nourish your body because they are rich in carotenoids, chlorophyll, and numerous vitamins to name a few. Carotenoids, the colorful plant pigments some of which the body can turn into vitamin A, are powerful antioxidants that can help prevent some forms of cancer and heart disease, and act to enhance your immune response to infections.
Orange and yellow fruits and vegetables have high vitamin A activity because of the carotenoids they contain. Generally, the deeper the color of the fruit or vegetable is an indication of a higher concentration of carotenoids. Carrots, for example, are especially good sources of beta-carotene. Green, leafy vegetables such as spinach, asparagus, and broccoli also contain large amounts of carotenoids, but their intense green pigment, courtesy of chlorophyll, masks the tell-tale orange-yellow color. (See the table on page 194 for a list of good food sources of vitamin A.)

[divider]Propolis for Optimum Health
After doing some research on this amazing little gem of course made by bees, I learned that Brazilian propolis is one of the purest forms especially if it comes from the rainforest. I know it is a little pricey, but in my opinion, if a product is great and pure, comes from the right sources and will do your body wonders why not?
Here is some more information on Propolis:
This peculiar aroma and color propolis extract is produced from the raw propolis originating in the rainforests of Brazil. Brazilian propolis extract (tincture) is processed from the highest quality Brazilian propolis so that every nutrient is fully preserved and extracted into the water-soluble base. It is highly concentrated (30%) and highly potent. Packaging is in the dark bottles with a pipette for easier handling. It can be consumed straight or mixed with liquids. Also, it may be used externally as a liquid band-aid. If you prefer the powder, I recommend this one.
I have added some of the best types of propolis I have found while doing research in my Shop Naturally store. However, this is the propolis that we use here at home. However, you can purchase it from your local beekeeper. By the way, just like honey propolis can be used to protect and heal wounds. There you go, I’ve said it. 🙂
Have you ever consumed propolis?

Yellow Lemon: The King of Alkaline Foods and a Natural Blood Thinner
Don’t even bother buying potassium pills, rely on lemons instead. Used properly, they will not harm teeth enamel. Pomegranate will also clear arteries but I wouldn’t expect it to work as aggressively. Don’t expect 1 treatment to do the trick, it doesn’t have so much power. I’d say at least 4 months of twice per day, lemon “water,” if you want it to fail, add any type of sweetener—including honey. It can be added to orange juice to make it more palatable, and that will lessen the speed at which it cleanses the arteries. Remember lemon is a blood thinner, and an effective one—if on coumadin discuss with your doctor before using lemon.
Yellow lemons. Two cautions—in case it isn’t self-evident, always take diluted with at least 15 parts of water, filtered for chlorine and fluoride, so as to not be possibly too strong for the stomach; it actually works better diluted, as water is the main constituent of circulation; second caution is, it should be sipped rapidly.
You should rinse your mouth several times with plain water afterward. If allowed to remain on your teeth past five minutes, it will start to dissolve tooth enamel. This should tell you what it does inside the arteries—it removes the calcium build-up. Vitamin K-2 works by a signaling mechanism, but for an immediate retreat from possible vascular risk, the citric acid in lemon will literally dissolve the calcium much faster than the K-2 could “redirect” it to the bones or sent out of the system. The lemon/citric acid will also remove any kidney stones.
The D-limonene from the peel, which you will get some of, is anti-neoplastic, preventing “immortalization” of undifferentiated cells (cancer!) The potassium content is very alkalizing and should be taken advantage of, as the USA medical/pharma cartel arranged for potassium tablets to supply only 3 percent of the daily need (which is higher than their low ball estimates).
I like to drink one whole fresh lemon in one glass of filtered slightly warm water most mornings. Adore it on my fish, and even some meats that deserve a hint of citrus, lemonade, vitamin water and the list goes on… Can you tell I adore lemons? You should too…
What is your favorite way of using Lemon?

Fruits in moderation are very important part of your diet, especially when eaten raw because of their soluble fiber content, vitamins and nutrients in general. Did you know that some fruits have an inflammatory factor higher than others?
If you are trying to balance your sugar levels, reverse insulin or leptin resistance avoid fruits at least until you get these hormones under control. You can take this quiz to find out whether your hormones are out of balance or not.

[divider]Inflammatory foods VS Anti-Inflammatory foods
Here is a pretty compelling comparison of the inflammatory and Anti-Inflammatory factor of a Biscuit Vs Turmeric. Yes they are opposites but this is a simple yet remarkable example of the damaging impact processed foods– like white flour has in our bodies.
Biscuit Glycemic Load: 10
Turmeric Glycemic Load: 2
Most baked goods (commercial AND yes sorry even those delicious warm ones made at home) are all inflammatory. Gluten Free, Grain Free, DF, Sugar-Free baked goods my healthy food bloggers make don’t belong to this group.
See the difference for yourself and make wise choices when it comes to food… and well spices in this case. Haven’t tried Turmeric yet? Then you are going to love making golden paste. Here’s my favorite organic turmeric –and what I use at home, plus I combine it with organic black pepper to make it more effective, and organic coconut oil bioavailable.
