You likely have some healing foods in your kitchen or spice rack, depending on your preferences. If not, it’s time to explore new flavors. Experimenting with different tastes and textures not only makes cooking enjoyable but also helps prevent and reverse diseases.
Many cultures incorporate spices not only for flavor but also for their healing properties.
Here are some of my favorite healing foods, beverages, herbs, and spices.:

Green Tea
Green tea has been used for thousands of years to quench thirst, eliminate indigestion, relieve hangovers, prevent fatigue, improve urinary function, cure vitamin deficiencies and improve brain function.
The effectiveness varies according to the strength of the brew and the nutritional content of the leaves. Research indicates that with regular use they lower blood cholesterol, which reduces the risk of heart disease of course, in conjunction with diet free of refined sugars and processed foods.
Olives
The olive tree is one of the most beneficial plants known. The fruit can be eaten, the pits contain rich flavorful oils that are a source of good dietary fats called omega-3 fatty acids, and the leaves of the tree have been used as medicine throughout recorded history.
The leaves are among the earliest mentioned healing foods in many ancient texts because their extracts have natural anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal activity. They are beneficial for fungal and yeast infections, asthma and colds, arthritis and diabetes, as well as for all types of infections.
Fish and Fish Oils
Fatty fish like Salmon contain unique fatty acids and other nutrients that are beneficial for good health, especially of the heart, brain, and cardiovascular system. These oils have natural anti-inflammatory properties making them highly beneficial for, general or chronic inflammation, inflammatory bowel diseases, and arthritis among other diseases. Salmon provides about 11 grams of fat per 100 grams of flesh, similar content of fats as sardines,
Salmon provides about 11 grams of fat per 100 grams of flesh, similar content of fats as sardines, mackerel, and tuna. This good Fat is rich in omega-3, contributing to lower levels of plasma cholesterol and triglycerides, and also increase the fluidity of the blood, preventing the formation of blood clots. For this reason, eating Salmon is recommended particularly in the case of cardiovascular disorders.
Salmon is an excellent source of proteins of high biological value, as well as other fish of this kind. In the event Salmon isn’t readily available or you can’t tolerate fish for some reason, it is recommended to supplement with a pure source of Fish oil supplements. That, along with a diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruits will in turn help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases.
Herbs and Spices
Most of the traditional healing foods are also used to flavor meats, rice and other dishes. Practically every spice that you can think of has some medicinal activity. Even plain table salt can be used as a natural skin exfoliant and cleanser.
Here’s a list of some of the common spices and what they are good for.
• Cayenne pepper~ relieves inflammation, improves digestion, reduces asthma, improves mood and relieves pain
• Ginger~ relieves nausea, morning sickness, motion sickness, and gastric distress, prevents blood clots, relieves arthritis, reduces swelling, fever, cough, hay fever and migraines
• Turmeric~ One of nature’s most powerful anti-inflammatory used to treat infections, high cholesterol, relieves and prevents arthritis, beneficial in psoriasis, Alzheimer’s, cancer and even the treatment of HIV. Additionally, the curcuminoid extract of turmeric reduces inflammation in patients with Osteoarthritis.
Fruits and vegetables of all kinds are healing foods, because of the unique antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories they contain.
The question that most people have is how much to eat or take. That’s where Herbal supplements come in being that the concentrated extracts provide the most benefits.
